Irene Palumbo (Cistone) - Class Of 1943

Irene Cistone, 85, passed away February 5, 2010.

Be ready at the gate Peter, the Lord has called home one of his most beloved angels.

Not many people could light up a room like Irene. Her personality and smile expanded to match the number of people she was embracing. She was a tender and compassionate nurturer with her children, grandchildren, family and anyone she met. She was blessed with the most wonderful brothers and sisters any of us have ever known. Mom was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support she received from her family and friends, especially over the last few years of her life.

Irene remained married to Pete, the love of her life for over sixty years, and though it will be quieter here without her, we rejoice her life and her reunion with our father and the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pete; brothers and sisters, Nick, Phil, Lucy, Anna, and Hilda. She is survived by her sister and friend, Dena; her brother-in-law, John (Sally) Cistone and sister-in-law, Ann (Jim) Huntsman.

She also leaves behind her loving children, Maria, Joe (Brenda) and Mike (Geri); grandchildren, Peter, Rachel, Michael, Cristy, Brandon, Devin, Stephen and Anthony; great-granddaughters, Isabella and Kali, and dozens of caring nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would also like to thank the caregivers and residents of Sunrise Assisted Living Center who made mom feel at home these past few months.

In lieu of flowers, mom would appreciate any donations be made to St. Anthony School where she spent many years volunteering to care for the children. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Pl., Akron. Private burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St., Akron
