i was wondering if anyone on North hill remembers the Popcorn Man who use to walk a cart around and sell fresh popcorn?. I have asked numerious kpeople and noone seems to know. I think my Aunt said his name was veto or sam.  This mam was older. I think that he is a part of the Hill and needs to be known. Especially by me. It is driving me crazy to find out more about him.  As a little girl I use to get into trouble becouse my Father would not by popcorn for me. So I always told him to this day he deprived me of it and that is why I crave it . lol  Sound good thank you

Does anybody remember the name of the little Italian grocery store on the corner of N.Main St & Mildred Ave. ?   It had a huge candy counter (penny, nickle in those days).  It was there early-mid 1960's.  Not sure when it closed.

I remember he quite vividly.  He stored his cart and supplies in the garage next door to us. He would start early in the day and return well after the dinner hour.

Hi Nora... the store on the corner of mildred and howard was  a Lawsons but the little Italian store on the corner of dalton and howard was Mazzolas. The name later changed to Moklers.... I don't recall the store on Main and Mildred. The drug store on the corner of Dalton and Howard was Biddle & Newcomes You probably don't remember me, I lived on Dalton around the corner from you. My sister Mary ran around with your older sister a bit.

Frank, Josie's does ring a bell.  Isn't it funny that I now have a grandaughter named Josephine!

I think I stopped at that store everyday on my way home from Harris, Jennings & I don't know if it was still there when I went to North.  Thanks for the info Frank, it's been killing me the last couple yrs. trying to remember it.

Mike C., I don't remember an Italian store on the corner of Howard & Dalton, but I do remember the drug store (not the name) with a soda fountain/milkshakes.  My dad strongly discouraged us from going to the Lawson's.  He was the union pres. for grocery/drug/shoe/discount stores (Retail Clerks Union local 698) & Lawson's wouldn't unionize.  I do remember us having their chip chop ham & chip dip in the house, don't know how my mom got away with that!  Thanks for your comments:)

Does anyone remember DeHarts Drug Store and Cobles Drug Store?  Remember the friendly lady at Cobles, Ann, who was so very patient as we selected our penney candy.

All the talk about drug stores, brings back memories of Lee's drug store on Cuyahoga Falls Ave. It was located past Big Falls ave. if I remember correctly. They had a soda fountain on one side of the store, and a little grocery section on the other side. We would go there after school. Marsha Cape's mom worked there for awhile and she gave us cherry cokes. Ahh the memories.

North Hill stores ?  How about  Isaly's at Temple Square ?  Anyone remember their  "chipped chopped ham" ?  Isn't that what it was known for?

I do remember the "popcorn man" and his cart.  Especially at the corner of Dayton and Tallmadge.   My Grandpa and I used to take walks around there.

The grocery store at the corner of Howard and Dalton yes was "Mokler's" at one time.  My family used to shop there in the early years when we lived on Avon.   We crossed paths again with the Mokler family when my niece married a grandson of Mr. Mokler.

My mother,  Mary Gasbarro Campanale- class of 1943, myself -1971 and husband, Mark "Willie" Craig -1969 attended the Sunday reunion BBQ and dance.  It was so great to see so many familiar faces and also meet new ones.  We also had several extended family members there too, since so many of us attended North.   Thanks all for a memorable time!

I remember Isaly's. My brother's and sister and I would stop there sometimes after church and get ice cream cones if we were walking home after Sunday School. It was a real treat.

Hi ya'll!  Speaking of stores on North Hill; I remember buying lemon ices from a small store next to the five & dime on - is it Talmadge Ave?  We have been gone from the Akron area since 1962 and my memory is not what is was. We also had a small grocery on the corner of Uhler and Aberdeen - does anyone remember it?

Thanks for the info!

Cheryl - the store on the corner of Uhler and Aberdeen was "Pops" and the family was the Cardarelli's.

The store were we stopped for Lemon Ice was Ninni's Bakery and it was beside DeHart Drug Store on the corner of Howard and Cuyahoga Falls Ave.

We lived on Carlysle.  My oldest brother Jim graduated in 69 and my sister Margaret graduate from Hower in 70.  I graduated in 72.

Thanks for the memories.
